    Zero Waste Games

The Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee has organized a separate waste collection in our Mascots’ home to minimize any negative impact on environment. Waste is not simply garbage; it’s free resource that can be put to good use in a practical and useful ways! For example, toilet paper, heat-insulating and construction materials, new paper and packaging can all be made from recycled paper. Construction materials for children’s playgrounds and gyms are made from used plastic bottles and recycled polyethylene. Plastic can also be of use for insulation in jackets, blankets and man-made fiber for clothes. Glass, metal cans and bottles can be easily melted down and used for new bottles and cans. Excellent organic fertilizers, compost, filling agents for soil are also made of food waste. As we can see, with the help of modern technologies we can make good use of all our everyday waste. And separate waste collection helps to process derived raw materials – as extracting useful resources from a pile of mixed waste can sometimes prove difficult.
